Application 1

Cheddar's Application

Information Architechure

Good

This application is grouped in sections that look for specific information from the applicant. This makes it easier to understand what is being asked and shows all of the information very clearly.

Bad

I believe asking if an applicant has committed a felony should be at the end of the personal information section. That question being in the middle feels misplaced.

User Interface

Good

I can read everything clearly enough but the type could be too small for those with vision problems. The typefaces used are visually pleasing and make the application readable.

Bad

The space between the felony question and answer makes the whole thing feel disjointed.

Usability

Good

The form wasn't difficult to fill out in person but there were some areas that I believe could have been formatted better for the user's benefit. Yes or no questions could have been formatted into check boxes, followed by an explanation if needed.

Bad

The tables for education and employment history look a little too small for anyone to write in. It also doesn't look appealing to fill out due to there not being enough room because of the how the tables are set up.

Accessibilty

Good

This application takes into account workers that could be under or over 18 years of age by mentioning the serving of alcoholic beverages.

Bad

Their is an entire section of the application dedicated to "Employment History". If someone who has never had a job before was filling this out, they would have to skip over the whole section. To me, this seems like they are looking for applicants with prior job experience. There isn't another option for if you haven't had past experience. There's also a part named "Hourly Rate Expected". This might be confusing to most people, because you wouldn't expect to choose that yourself.

Data Integrity

Bad

In this application, any position you'd want to apply for isn't listed. It would benefit the user to know what positions they can choose from instead of making the response open-ended.

User Experience

Good

This application wasn't hard to fill out and most of the experience was easy

Bad

There were some sections that could be glanced over it you've never had a job before or have never worked at Cheddar's before. This could discourage the end user and make them feel like they aren't qualified enough to work at the restaurant.

Application 2

The Cowfish Sushi Bar Application

Information Architeture

Good

The information is grouped into sections to make it easier for applicants to know what is being asked of them. The form gives you enough room to write your answers and the text is big enough to read properly.

User Interface

Good

The whole application is in black and white so it's very readable. The typefaces used are sans-serif, so the infornation isn't distracting and is fully understandable.

Bad

Ths spacing between some questions and their yes or no answer banks aren't an inconvience to fill out, but the space between them looks a little bit awkward in some places.

Usability

Good

This application flowed really well when it came to filling it out. There's also a small section for if you've had past military service. That part isn't as essential to be completed but it's a nice addition to the application as a whole.

Bad

Again there are sections to this form where someone with no past job experience wouldn't be able to fill out. That takes up a huge portion of the second page. A lot of extra space wouldn't have been used. The spacing between some words and lines is also not proportional.

Accessibility

Good

I feel like the majority of applicants that would fill this form out can get a good understanding of it as they go through all of the questions. There wasn't anything I found confusing or difficult to grasp.

Bad

There's no space inbetween the each of the different references. It could look a bit cluttered and confusing.

Data Integrity

Bad

The "Previous Employment" section could have benefited from asking the applicant if they've had a previous job with a yes and no format. If yes, then the applicant could continue to fill out the information that follows.

User Experience

Good

For the average applicant this application will be pretty pleasant to fill out. Everything is layed out in a very simple way to make the process easier.

Bad

There were some sections that could be glanced over it you've never had a job before or have never worked at The Cowfish before. This could discourage the end user and make them feel like they aren't qualified enough to work at the restaurant.
